Pete Nicholson - Animator at King Bee Animation

We're delighted to congratulate Animation Apprentice student Pete Nicholson who has just landed a job with King Bee animation, based at the historic Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, just outside of London.

Pete got the job after doing an internship at King Bee; a tried and tested route into the industry. Internships are often - in effect - a kind of prolonged interview process. Which, in this case, had a happy ending.

Pete Nicholson Animation Intern at King Bee

How do aspiring animators secure an internship in the animation industry? This is a question asked by lots of students.

An internship at an animation studio can be a necessary first step to entering the industry. It will give you real-world experience of the business, helps you to build contacts and may lead to a job.

Animation Apprentice student Pete Nicholson has just landed an internship with King Bee animation, based at the historic Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, just outside of London.  We asked him to talk a little about how it came about.

Pete Nicholson's Animation Job Tips

Pete Nicholson
Pete Nicholson graduated from Animation Apprentice a while back and, thanks to a strong demo reel and plenty of perseverance, he quickly found work in the animation industry, starting his animation career at Nano Films and later at King Bee.

Today he is working as an animator at Dead Ready Productions, where was recently involved in hiring a new After Effects animator.  What he discovered, going through the applications, was pretty striking.

You might think that the competition for animation jobs is intense - and it is. But you might also be surprised how many applications go into the bin because of simple, basic (and very easy to avoid) mistakes made by the applicant.

Animation Apprentice Student Becomes Freelance Animator at Nano Films

Pete Nicholson is a student at Animation Apprentice who has been working on live briefs for commercial clients, doing short films under the banner of our mini film co-operative Nano Films. Last year he worked on Rocketseed, a short film for a global email marketing company, and is now working on The Float Folks, an intro/teaser for a brand new TV series for children. We asked Pete to talk about what it was like starting off as a freelance animator.

Meet The Float Folks! - our Latest Commercial Project!

The Float Folks - Coming Soon!
Our student animators have recently finished work on our newest commercial project - The Float Folks - a teaser for a new TV Series which is the brainchild of creator Ian Foyle. The Float Folks invites the viewer into a world of fishing floats; a small town by the reed beds where everyone gets along (mostly) - and the only way to travel is by dragonfly or dogfish. The project was animated by a number of our recent graduates and current animation students. We're excited to see this project come to life, and thrilled to have been a part of making it happen.
