Work Method
  • Start by going to Turbosquid.com, a great resource for free sets and props for animation. Search by "lower pries" and find a phone. Download anything Maya compatible (mb ma obj or fix files will all work).
  • Create a Project in Maya, and set to it.
  • Download the phone into your scenes folder.
  • Make sure that you can animate the handle of the phone. If you can't, go to mesh/separate to separate the handle from the rest of the phone.
  • Set your timeline to 51 frames
  • At frame 1, set a keyframe on the phone handle. Set another keyframe at frame 13.
  • At frame 15, lift the phone up in the air, and rotate it.
  • At frame 17, lift the phone up a bit further in the air, and rotate it the other way
  • At frame 19, lift the phone up a bit further in the air, and rotate it the other way
  • At frame 21, lift the phone up a bit further in the air, and rotate it the other way
  • At frame 23, lift the phone up a bit further in the air, and rotate it the other way.
  • At frame 25, bring the phone back to its starting position.
  • Then, copy the frames and paste them to make the phone ring again.
