3D VFX Taster Online - Just £25

Online 3D VFX Taster Course

London-based VFX academy Escape Studios has just launched a new online 3D VFX taster course, aimed at absolute beginners who want to master the basics of Maya and 3D VFX.

This online taster was developed by Escape Studios' Head of 3D, Mark Spevick, and costs just £25.

Smashcut
The online taster is delivered through the Smashcut platform, costs just £25, and takes under 6 hours to complete. What are you doing between now and New Year's Eve? Watching movies? Why not spend a day learning the fundamentals of VFX instead?

Course content

Mark Spevick

The course lessons were curated by veteran Head of 3D, Mark Spevick, who has over 20 years experience in the industry. Mark's movie credits include Angels & Demons, Casino Royale and The Golden Compass.  

It was developed in association with industry partners, such as Framestore, and with support from the Online Programme Management department (OPM) at Pearson.

• Overview to the CGI industry - roles, studios, departments
• Creating simple geometry 
• UVs
• Texturing
• Bump maps
• Lighting
• Animation
• Basic compositing



Learn the basics of CG lighting

• Rendering

Project and feedback
Students will be able to work on a project throughout the course, and then have the opportunity to upload their work at the end of the course, and receive feedback from an Escape Studios tutor.

3D VFX Online Taster Course
Our 3D VFX Taster Course is hosted online at the Smashcut platform.  The course is aimed at students who want to study online, and start working on the skills needed to break into the visual effects industry.

VFX Fundamentals
The 3D Online VFX Taster is designed for beginners. The course teaches basi skills including the fundamentals of industry-standard software Autodesk Maya, as well as basic techniques in modelling, texturing, lighting and rendering. The course is hosted and delivered in conjunction with Smashcut, an online learning platform. Students are given an introduction on how to use Smashcut, and technical support is available through the platform throughout the course.
