Kayla Rig by Josh Sobel Available for $12

Kayla Rig by Josh Sobel
Kayla isn't free, but $12 is a very reasonable price for a fully functioning Maya rig with excellent facial expressions.

Kayla is sweet and charming and very useful for any student looking for an attractive rig for animating a young or pre-teen girl.

Kayla even has an aging function so you can scale her older or younger according to the context of your shot.

Kayla Hi Rez and Lo Rez Features
Kayla has a useful smooth/unsmooth slider which allows you to toggle between hi rez (suitable for final render) and low rez, which is more likely to give you real-time playback in your Maya viewport. You can find the slider on the cog-shaped icon located just next to Kayla's toes.

Explainer Video

Kayla and Arnold
Another useful feature of the Kayla rig is that her shaders will render well with Arnold.

Eye Direction Controller
The eye direction controller is named eyeAim_CON. In the Channel Box, make sure that Local/World is set to 1. This way the Kayla's eyes will always follow the eye direction controller. To see how the eye direction control works, watch the short video below:

Ageing Kayla
One useful feature of Kayla is that you can age her, making her older or younger according to the needs of the shot. You can also change her sex, turning her into Kyle.
